National Press Club (NPC) Director Leonel “Boying” Abasola, co-chair NPC Press Freedom Committee, attends the public hearing of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media as a resource speaker to discuss Senate Bill No. 6 entitled “An Act Amending Section 1 of the Republic Act No. 53, otherwise known as “The Sotto Law” last November 9, 2016. RA No. 53 mandates that no Filipino journalist shall be compelled to reveal the source of his story unless it involves matters affecting Philippine national security or unless directed by the court or a committee of Congress.
