ON THE MURDER OF NPC MEMBER JUN BRIONES
The National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) strongly condemns the killing of its active member, Mr. Jun Briones, early today in Masbate province.
Briones was shot in the head by still unidentified assailants. Briones was a columnist of the daily newspaper Remate. We shall always remember him as a strong supporter of the NPC leadership during his lifetime.
The NPC deeply condoles with the Briones family in these hard times. The NPC has already coordinated with the Presidential Task Force on Media Security in the quest for justice for another fallen member of the press.
Ironically, Briones, according to PTFoMS undersecretary, Joel Sy Egco, has even volunteered to join the PTFoMS in its many activities to uphold press freedom and give justice to the members of the Fourth Estate victimized by violence. Now, he has ended in the media’s casualty list.
JUSTICE FOR JUN BRIONES AND ALL OTHER FALLEN MEMBERS OF THE PHILIPPINE PRESS!!!
